Robbie grew up in the Nambucca Valley, close to the coast, and spent a lot of his childhood in the ocean where he developed a relationship with nature. As a child he was always drawn to comics, cartoons, super-heroes and science-fiction, and as an adult this morphed into an interest in metaphysics and ancient mysteries. Robbie now lives in Wingham with his partner and four children, spending his days creating at the dining table.
"I have spent a lot of time living alone in which I developed a self-reflective quality. At times I’ve felt like an outsider, a bit disconnected, and looking inward I have built a somewhat cynical view of society, as well as an appreciation of what I perceive as the finer qualities of people. These are themes that appear in a lot of my paintings. In my desire to tell stories I attempt to engage people’s imaginations and emotions in a number of ways. I have had no formal training, and it wasn’t until I moved to the Manning Valley 8 years ago that I immersed myself in creating, taking my art more seriously. I’ve always been a big believer in doing what you love, and as a father I feel it is important to show my children that the options to living a fulfilling life are endless, and not necessarily found on a well-worn path."
