Friends and the Manning Regional Art Gallery are pleased to host our next exhibition. Join us in opening Flux and Koala Ark.
Flux by Laura Matthews examines both the physical and temporal relationship between the individual and the forces of nature. "The exhibition foregrounds moments of transition, often uncomfortable interactions between states and worlds. The recurrent motif of the waterfall, symbolising in its perpetual motion, life and renewal, is juxtaposed with human figures, finite and vulnerable. The narrative nature of these works hints at our fragile relationship with the natural world, with which we are often in conflict."
Koala Ark by Stephen Michael King. The 2019 and 2020 fires affected homes, communities and the natural environment more than any fire before. After the fires, Stephen Michael King was inspired to create a book about the time and it's affect on our local wildlife. This exhibition features original artworks from the book, 'Koala Ark'. "Koalas like to sleep and eat. They’re vulnerable. In Koala Ark, I made Koala the hero. His character reflects a lot of what I observed in the people around me. Sitting beside the tragedy and heartache of the fires was bravery and humanity at its best."
