The 2022 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award (JADA) is a Grafton Regional Gallery touring exhibition and celebrates Australian contemporary drawing at its finest. This year the tradition of excellence continues with 56 artists selected from 641 entries for the exhibition, which will continue its touring legacy travelling to communities across the east coast of Australia promoting contemporary drawing to regional audiences throughout 2023 and 2024. The 2022 winner, Catherine O’Donnell will be officially opening the exhibition.

Jewels of the Beetle World. Beetles are the most diverse and abundant animal group found on Earth. Currently they number nearly 500,000 name species worldwide, however, their estimated actual number is of a degree far great than this. Beetles constitute the order Coleoptera, within which there are currently 160 families, the majority of which occur in Australia. The images depicted here, photographed by Kevin Mitchell, represent examples of a single family - the Buprestidae, commonly called ‘Jewel beetles’. They rank as the eighth largest family of Coleoptera, comprising about 15,000 species.
