Australia's favourite portrait prize

The annual Archibald Prize is eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike. 

First awarded in 1921, it is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious art awards. Judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW and awarded to the best portrait painting, the Archibald Prize exhibition is a who's who of Australian culture - from politicians to celebrities, sporting heroes to artists. 

This touring exhibition is an opportunity to see the finalists in the Archibald Prize 2021. Exhibition dates: 8 July to 21 August 2022

View the Archibald Prize 2021 Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 5pm plus every Thursday evening during the exhibition until 7pm. Enjoy these special extended opening hours during the Archibald Prize 2021. 

Guided tours are available 12.00 noon Fridays.

Entry to the Archibald Prize 2021 is by ticket only. 

All ages exhibition.

ABOUT YOUR TICKET 

Tickets can be purchased over the counter at the Gallery. Each ticket permits entry to the exhibition.

Ticket prices*

  • $5 – Adults
  • $2 – Concession card (Pension, Health Care, Fulltime Student aged 18+)
  • Free – Child 0 – 17 years
  • Companion card accepted**
  • Free entry for ‘Friends of the Gallery’ members and Art Gallery of NSW Members. 

* Tickets are single entry only. Concession cards must be presented at entry.

** Admission to the 2021 Archibald Prize exhibition is free to those who hold a Companion Card and are assisting as a carer. Present your Companion Card at the front desk to receive your ticket.
