'I spent most of my youth voluntarily incarcerated in the life room at the Slade. It has taken me over thirty years to address the subject of ‘The Nude’ to find a reason to paint it once again.

The fabulously raw and unselfconscious cavorting of my niece and her friend on a local beach gave me the inspiration I needed to reinvent the subject as “figure in the landscape”. These Sea Creatures are at ease with both their nudity and physicality and at one with their environment. The work represents a rare and special moment.'
