Cultures in the Manning Stories –

The Manning Regional Art Gallery & Manning Valley Neighbourhood Services are proud to announce; Cultures in the Manning Stories 2018. In celebration of the Manning Valley’s cultural richness, the Manning Regional Art Gallery will host Cultures in the Manning Stories, a platform to share the cultural stories of our diverse community, through art, music, performance and story telling.

The event will be held on Saturday the 10th November 2018 at the Gallery and will include morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session will feature Biripi and migrant journey stories in a Q & A style session, where the importance of Cultural stories and the way they can be shared will be discussed. The morning session will also feature several cultural performances, a shared lunch which will then lead into the afternoon session launch at 2pm of two cultural projects ‘Birds of a Feather’ and ‘Manning Migrants’.

 ‘Birds of a Feather’ is an exhibition of work created by the multicultural women’s group who have been meeting for the past 7 months at the Gallery and Taree Library. The Multicultural women’s group has provided opportunities for women from diverse cultures to connect, create, make new friends, have a cup of tea and relax. At the gallery, the participant’s combined their creativity with cultural story telling lead by the fabulous and creative Sam Everett from Sweet-pea and Mumma studio.

 ‘Manning Migrants’ is a public art project that introduces us to Migrants living and working in the Manning Valley. The participants were photographed by Ronnie Grammatica and will be displayed on the external gallery walls. The work can be viewed from the new Macquarie Street car park adjacent to the Gallery.

Increasingly the Manning Valley is becoming more diverse, bringing a cultural richness to the area. Manning Regional Art Gallery and the Migrant Settlement Project have partnered for many years to improve social inclusion and believe events such as these are an opportunity to promote harmony and inclusion by giving people a firsthand experience of cultural diversity in the area.

The annual Cultures in the Manning Festival was unable to take place this year due to multiple constraints but next year will be bigger and better with the completion of the Art Gallery Car Park.
