PROJECT #6: Stephen Micheal King, Working Collaboration

Stephen Michael King @ the Gallery

Exhibition dates: 2 November to 13 November 2016

As part of the Manning Regional Art Gallery’s Wall Project, multi-award winning children’s book illustrator and author, Stephen Michael King, will take to the wall from Wednesday 2 to Sunday 13 November 2016.

Stephen Michael King is a talented artist, having illustrated over 100 books and worked for the likes Walt Disney, Burbank Animation, ABC and many other design and illustration houses.

More recently, Stephen collaborated with Author, Glenda Millard on a book called ‘The Duck and the Darklings’ which won them the 2016 Western Australian Premier’s Literary Award. He is now working with Glenda to illustrate her poem ‘I am the Small Green Pea’ into a picture book, which will be published by Australia’s leading independent publisher, Allen and Unwin. This current venture will be the focus for his Wall Project at the Gallery.

“I will start by writing Glenda’s words on the wall and then pin my illustrations and sketches as I complete them, with the end result reading like a beautiful big storyboard wall,” said Stephen.

“I love the idea of the wall project as it’s an opportunity to spread out, step back and observe the progression of my work as a whole, and I’m also quite keen on the idea of feedback from the public,” added Stephen.

MidCoast Council’s  Acting Art Gallery Director, Rachel Piercy is looking forward to having Stephen at the gallery for the 6th edition of the Wall Project. “This project allows artists to explore, collaborate and showcase their artistic skills while interacting with the community and we’re excited to see Stephen’s storyboard develop on the wall on the gallery,” said Rachel.

Everyone is invited to come along to the gallery to see the Wall Project develop from 2 to 13 November during normal gallery hours, Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sunday 1pm to 4pm. Glenda Millard will also join Stephen during the exhibition period from Wednesday 9 November.
